Loodsjol Wester 122
The Loodsjol 122 Wester is a project that has been restored by us. After being on the shore for almost 10 years, the boat was half full of water. It was largely damaged, rotten or rusted. We chose to strip the boat bare to expose all the problems. The engine was neatly repaired, wood rot was replaced and all paint systems were reapplied layer by layer. After more than 1000 hours the boat was launched as new.
The shed has a beautiful history. It is one of the 4 yawls that hung on the “Spica”. Built in 1973 at Amels in Makkum. The Spica was moored off the coast of Vlissingen on the Western Scheldt and with the yawls the captains were taken to the incoming ships to help with navigation to the port of Terneuzen (or Antwerp). In the 1990s, the Rijksloodswezen was made independent and all 9 ships and all yawls were sold. The Spica in Antwerp was converted into a luxury yacht under the name “Intuition II”. Below you will find a photo report of what this looked like. Or watch this video about how this worked in the 1970s. See pilotsjollen.nl for more photos and information about the history of the Loodsjol.
